Red Lechwe

Kobus leche leche

A medium-sized antelope that prefers marshlands, swamps and floodplains, up to 500 mm deep where they graze on the lush aquatic grasses. Males and females are both reddish-brown, with a white belly but only the males have horns.

 

Conservation

Populations are declining throughout their range due to poaching, hunting, habitat loss and disturbance as well as climate change.
