Giraffe Gorge

We have left the Kalahari and have got the edge of the Namib Escarpment. Seasonal rains have created deep canyons and gorges. The river beds, dry and sandy most of the year, hold underground aquifers that support life throughout the dry season. A surprising number of large animals are found in these gorges, amongst them, the giraffe.

This is the story behind the Giraffe Gorge, one the most impressive views of the Safari where giraffes roam freely between these gorges.

The last section of the Safari tour is the Safari Animal Management Units (SAMUs). These are enclosures for the transfer of large herds of herbivores between the Safari sections and the herbivore holdings.
