The West African Pied Hornbill has a long, curved black and yellow bill with a medium-sized casque.
This bird has a varied diet, but mostly feeds on fruit and insects.
It is found in rainforests, well-wooded savannahs, plantations and gardens.
Conservation
In certain areas, the West African Pied Hornbill is very common. It is one of the few hornbill species that has adapted well to living in disturbed forest habitats, partly due to the fact that it will roam widely in search of food. This habit also means it plays a key role in the dispersal of tree seeds between forest and surrounding habitats.
